Sports & Deep Tissue Massage

Not just aimed at people involved in intense physical activity, deep tissue and sports massage can benefit anyone looking to reduce muscular pain and discomfort. Both are also used as preventative therapy for injury, improving circulation, lymph flow and increasing flexibility. These modalities make use of deep massage strokes and a variety of techniques and stretches to manipulate soft tissue, precisely muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia more effectively.

Bearing in mind that no movement is forced, the therapist will continually assess and feel the level of the client’s resistance and comfort, never to cause unnecessary pain.

With a sound knowledge of the muscular-skeletal system, I can tailor the message to your specific requirements.

Reflexology

As part of traditional Chinese medicine, reflexology is a complementary treatment performed mainly on the feet but also on the hands. It is a relaxing therapy where massage strokes and finger/thumb pressure are applied to specific points called "reflexes" as they reflect, or mirror, the organs and structures of the body as well as the person's emotional health.

It can be beneficial in relieving symptoms of various illnesses, managing stress, eliminating toxins and promoting homeostasis, which then restores balance within the body.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a modality where the therapist uses smooth and heated basalt stones as an extension of their own hands. The heat from the stones in contact with the skin can be relaxing, soothing and therapeutic, which makes it very popular on those cold rainy days.

This technique can be added to deep tissue or sports massage for a much more dynamic and therapeutic treatment as the heated stones enables the therapist to work deeper, and this way more effectively easing tension and pain. *The therapist can also use cold stones (cryotherapy) in conjunction with the hot stones in specific areas that require treatment, as they are excellent for acute injuries. This treatment is highly effective in reducing swelling and inflammation. The contrast of alternating Hot and Cold is used occasionally on rehabilitation.

Lomi Lomi massage

Lomi Lomi massage is a traditional Hawaiian style of treatment in which every massage is created for each body’s individual energy flow promoting free and abundant flow of energy within the body. The massage technique is fluid and rhythmic, where the therapist uses her hands, palms and forearms to massage. The therapist can also apply some gentle stretches and joint rotation. Lomi Lomi strokes are known to feel like gentle waves moving over the body, and which different parts of the body are massaged at the same time.

For example, a therapist will work on your shoulder and lower back or upper leg at the same time. This synchronicity allows clients to achieve deep relaxation as it is difficult for the brain to focus on two different areas simultaneously. *With this treatment, the client will lay directly on the vinyl of the massage table and not over a towel and rather than being entirely covered by towels, clients will be covered by a small towel leaving most of the body exposed during the treatment, whilst always maintaining the client's modesty. This makes it easier to perform the under-body and full-body strokes without interrupting the flow of the massage.
